Designing branded communications for a multicultural organisation such as Auckland Council is both a great opportunity for creativity as well as a challenge to connecting with people form all walks of life, a characteristic that sets Auckland apart from other cities around the world. Through communicating rightly, graphic design projects help achieve Council’s vision for Auckland’s future.

My work as lead designer was to develop and collect all brand elements into one document while expanding the brand identity design into an effective visual comunication system, guidelining its usage and providing construction for various applications throughout this large organisation.

Magazine design

OurAuckland shares the latest Auckland Council events and news happening across the broader Auckland city, covering all 13 wards in Central, North, East, South and West areas. More than 540,000 copies of OurAuckland magazine are delivered to homes, businesses, libraries and local offices across the region. As a lead designer, I was in charge of managing all aspects of graphic design and the creative direction for each monthly issue, with the purpose of creating visually engaging and stimulating material, as well as producing multiple printing outputs.

Event communications

2016 Auckland Heritage Festival: Now & Then

The Auckland Council’s annual event Auckland Heritage Festival 2016 theme was “Now and Then: The changing face of Auckland” and explored the heritage and transformation of Tāmaki Makaurau region to modern days.

The graphic design takes on a retro yet modern combinations of shapes and colours that contrast vintage design with geometric and bold modern shapes.

15/16 Annual Report

The 2015/2016 Summary Annual Report document takes on an organic and natural brand colour theme in golds and greens throughout the design. Hereby, I present a couple of pages selected from the extensive document to illustrate the layout design, imagery and statistical graphics styles used throughout the document.
